In power system, in order to achieve the certain filtering effect, it is necessary to combine different filter topologies. Currently, the selection of PPF topologies is based on the

    3、 engineering practical experience of PPF designer. However, there is a lack in systematic design method and scientific design basis. For this reason, this paper, taking the filtering effect and filters cost as the design indices, deeply investigates the selection problem of PPF topologies, and propo

    4、ses a selection method of PPF topologies. The research results show that the most reasonable combination of different filter topologies can be obtained by this method for different situation needed to mitigate harmonic and compensate reactive power.     5、 (PPF); selection of topologies I.INTRODUCTIONWith the increase of the rectifiers, frequency control devices, electric arc furnaces, electric railway and amount of power electronic devices in power grid, the power grid is polluted seriously. For improving power qualities and power environment, the t

    6、echnologies of harmonic suppression and reactive compensation are widely applied. It is main solution using Active Power Filter (APF) and Passive Power Filter (PPF) to mitigate the harmonic. Because of PPF advantages in performance-price ratio, PPF is still a better choice for large-scale users. Cur

    7、rently the most studies of PPF is the parameter optimization, there is a lack for the selection method of PPF topologies 1. However, for the selection of PPF topologies,there is not a universal method. And the combination of PPF is always designed according to the experiences of filter designer.Taki

    8、ng technical and economic indices to evaluate therationality of the selected PPF topologies combination, this paper presents a selection method of PPF topologies. II.THE TOPOLOGIES AND FREQUENCY CHARACTERISTICS OF PPFA.The Topologies of PPF Usually there are six topologies for a filter designer. The

    9、setopologies can be divided into two categories: tuned filters and high-pass filters 2.The topologies of tuned filters are shown in Fig. 1, including single-tuned filter and double-tuned filter. The single-tuned filter contains a capacitor in series with an inductor. The single-tuned filter see Fig.

    10、 1(a) provides low impedance at a certain tuned frequency, it can bypass this harmonic. The double-tuned filter see Fig. 1(b) provides low impedance at two certain tuned frequencies, it can bypass thesetwo different harmonic. The topology of high-pass filters The topologies of high-pass filters are shown in Fig. 2, including the first-order high-pass filter, second-order high-pa

    12、ss filter, the third-order high-pass filter and C-type high-pass filter. High-pass filters are able to trap a wide range of harmonics by providing a low impedance path at high frequencies. The first-order high-pass filter see Fig. 2(a) provides small impedance at high frequencies because the capacit

    13、or characteristics. The second-order high-pass filter see Fig. 2(b) consists of a capacitor in series with a parallel inductor and resistor. The third-order high-pass filter see Fig. 2(c) is added a capacitor at parallel resistor branch based on the second-order high-pass filter. The C-type high-pas

    14、s filter see Fig. 2(d) is added a capacitor at parallel inductor branch based on the second-order high-pass filter.     15、nd capacitors at a certain harmonic frequency makes the impedance of the filter very small. So the harmonic can be filtered by the single-tuned filter. However, the impedance of double-tuned filter is small at two different harmonic frequencies. Therefore there are two different harmonic current can
